GROOMING
At Where the Dogs Are, we prefer honesty with our clients over telling you just what you want to hear. That said, we offer you here the most transparent and honest description of Grooming services that you will likely ever read. It is our hope that this will not only educate you, but also will gain us a loyal and informed client base. We hope that you enjoy our version of Myth Busters...
Every once in a great while, there will be a dog who truly enjoys the grooming experience. However, this is the exception, not the rule. For now, we ask you to set aside the imagery you've seen on TV, in movies, and in advertising, of the happy, smiling doggie, basking in the luxury of Spa Day at the salon. It's not a coincidence that you only see this in drawings. You will never see a photograph of Fido at the salon, in a robe, with sliced cucumbers over his eyes.
There are two places that dog's dread...the Vet, and the Grooming Salon. Often the Grooming Salon is the scarier of the two because the dog is actually separated from the owner. Separation anxiety is probably the most stressful of feelings that a dog can experience. Imagine yourself as a child, as the owner/dog relationship is much like a parent and child, especially from the dog's point of view. You are taken to a place, and left there with no explanation of why, or any assurance of your parents returning to get you. A stranger takes you to a kennel full of barking dogs and cages. You are put into a cage, where you spend most of the day, only to be let out for the Grooming process, which can be scary in itself...Remember your first haircut?
So does this mean that we should not take our beloved dogs to the Vet or Groomer? Of course not. Both are absolutely necessary, and at the end of the day, our dogs are healthier and happier for it. You just need to be careful when picking who you are going to entrust to groom your dog. If an establishment has a history of mistreating dogs, or grooming accidents resulting in injury to the dog, it's not difficult to find out. Googling the name of an establishment and the word groom will let you know if a particular establishment has a bad history.
At Where the Dogs Are, our services are unique in comparison to other groomers. Our grooming package is all inclusive, as in we do not charge extra for services in addition to the bath and haircut. Your dog's Grooming package will include the bath, haircut, nails clipped (and buffed, optional), ears cleaned, teeth and gums brushed, breath freshener, glands expressed, eye wash, paw pad treatment, and fragrance spritz (optional). Our facility is in a home, not a kennel. We service only one client at a time, so there will be no loud barking dogs to stress your dog out. While in our care, we will take your dog out into a fenced in area to go potty, if you wish. Many salons will not do this. While with us, your dog will be under the constant supervision of a caring professional. Your dog will not spend one second in a cage. Lastly, we broadcast a LIVE online Cam feed of your dog, so anytime you want to check in, you can. Bearing all of this in mind, we are confident that you will see that our priorities are your dog's well being, and your peace of mind in knowing that we will make your dog as comfortable as possible while in our care.
